When you're starving, you'll turn to anyone.
Western Europe was starving for and starving for help. With no one to turn to for help, it was the responsibility of the United States, the only super power at the time and the only ones capable of sending aid, to rebuild these hurting nations. George Marshall knew that if the US did nothing, Europe would be conquered by communism. Winston Churchill's Iron Curtain Speech first portrayed this idea, praising America for being the only ones that can help out these countries, then calling us to step up and fight, warning us of the expansion of communism from the Soviet Union, and finally asking for an even closer relationship with Great Britain-all reasons the Marshall Plan was enacted.
